.Daedalean Complex mixes Gothic sounds with Industrial metal to create a sound all their own. They are made up of very talented and creative individuals, and Enchanted Darkness was fortunate enough to pick the brain of their
charismatic frontman Herr Nox.

Enchanted Darkness Asks:
What year did the band come together?

Herr Nox replies:
The band started out in 2007. Daedalus and me are the only 2 core members remaining.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
You are Bilingual can we expect to hear any lyrics in french as well as english?

Herr Nox replies:
Yes I'm bilingual. My first language is French but I learned English at a young age, mostly by watching cartoons. I thought English cartoons were a lot cooler for a little boy: you had stuff like Biker Mice From Mars and we had Bouli (a little snowman) haha. On the second album I'm still thinking of using a bit of French.
The French language sounds nice when you want to make create a narration, but English works a lot better in the metal genre, it's more punchy, words are usually shorter.

Enchanted Darkness says:
Very true but you have to admit there were a few pretty awesome French Cartoons as well.

Herr Nox says:
Yes there were, but I don't know, maybe watching cartoons in English seemed more exotic. I've always wished to learn a lot of different languages. We've used Latin on the first album and I think I might use bits of French and German on the next one.

Enchanted Darkness aks:
Who composes the lyrics is it just you or is it more of a group effort?

Herr Nox replies:
I compose the lyrics. When I first got into the band Daedalus had already composed the lyrics for 2 or 3 songs, but we ended up agreeing that it would probably sound better if I'd write my own lyrics. It's pretty hard to "feel" someone else's lyrics. So in order to be more convincing I reworked the lyrics and composed the rest of them. Words are basically my playground whereas music is
Daedalus' world.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
One of my favourite songs from you guys is Far Beyond is there a particular song that holds a special meaning to you?

Herr Nox replies:
Far Beyond is my favorite one too. It has become our anthem live. I think it's the song that defines us the most on the first album. It's also what I expected the band to sound like when we started out.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
What influences and inspires you?

Herr Nox says:
Pretty much everything. I love good ol' scary litterature (mostly Lovecraft), old horror movies (Hammer Films, classics from the 70's). I just love the atmosphere in these works, that's something that is truly lacking nowadays in my opinion. I also have a thing for Psychology, I like to explore the dark corners of the mind.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
The visual aspect of your band is dark and compelling do you think your artistic background has influenced this ?

Herr Nox replies:
I think it has. I'm the "master-photoshoper" of the band haha. I wanted the visual aspect of the band to reflect how it sounded. There's often a translation between music and image, but I wanted them to be alike, we had to make whole and create a unique world.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
Can you describe for our readers what this world you created is like? describe your vision and explain what you are trying to get across to your audience

Herr Nox replies:
It's pretty much a mixture of dark esoterism and technology. The loss of Religious views left an empty spot in people's mind, this spot is now filled with all kinds of technological entertainement, anything that can create a diversion from going into deep reflections. I think it's not too far from the truth. But that's where we take it further by adding sexual themes, dark tales, etc...
That's for the first album. The second album also follows this but has a bit more feelings, it's less mechanical or emotionless if you will. We not trying to make a statement or go political with this, I think we're more of a representation of what society might be today. Daedalean Complex stands for blood, lust and machines basicaly.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
how did you come up with the name Daedalean Complex?

Herr Nox replies:
Daedalus came up with it. At first it was only supposed to be a side-project, but it ended up as a complete band. It comes from Greek mythology, Daedalus being the father of Icarus. Both made wings out of wax to escape the Minotaur's labyrinth. Icarus went too high and the sun made his wings melt down. It was a way to describe our lyrical theme: esoterism (Daedalean) and technology (Complex).

Enchanted Darkness asks:
What can a fan expect to see if they are lucky enough to get a chance to see you live?

Herr Nox replies:
They will certainly be entertained. We put a lot of effort in creating a good live experience. We incorporate theatrical elements and visuals so that it really becomes something you cannot recreate in your iPod. On stage is where this band all makes sense and where our world becomes reality.
And yes, there's most certainly blood, lust and machines live.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
I was lucky enough to see you when you toured with Mary and the Black Lamb. I go to a lot of shows and Yours stuck with me. What was it like to tour with them?

Herr Nox replies:
It was awesome. They're all very nice and genuine people. We had a lot of fun together and shared a lot of good times. I honestly can't think of anything bad about them. Most of us kept in touch and I think we developped a good friendship.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
After the show you guys relaxed and talked to the fans how do you remain so down to earth and friendly?

Herr Nox replies:
Without them we wouldn't be here. The crowd creates the atmosphere and that's at least 80% of a good live experience. So when it goes well you ought to thank them.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
Do you have any crazy tour stories you would like to share with us?

Herr Nox replies:
Hmm... let me think... 1. Our bassist and drummer got us lost when going to Ottawa. They took the wrong exit and we went up north. 2. M.A.D., our bassist (yeah him again ) got sick when coming to Toronto, at some point he said he might not be able to do the show later that day. In the end he got better but it was the first time we would've had to cancel a show, that's probably a musician's worst
worst nightmare.
3. At the Quebec City show one of our comedians got high blood pressure and passed-out, she fell to the floor and broke her nose. There was blood all over the place, but everyone thought it was part of the show.
I could go on forever. lol
Enchanted Darkness says:
So I see that the tour definately had its ups and downs I am very glad you never had to cancel though
can we expect you to tour again soon?

Herr Nox replies:
Since we are currently in preproduction we do not have much time left to tour. Then we're entering studios in January. We will probably have time to do a couple of single shows, but I don't think there will be a proper tour until next summer when we release our next album.

Enchanted Darkness asks:
In the next album how has the music grown? How do you hope it to develop in the future?

Herr Nox says:
The next album is going to be heavier and catchier. The vocals are also going to be more diverse. There will be more industrial and electronic elements and it will blend a lot better into the music. I think we just got better at what we do individually and I'm sure that will show on the recording. The first album was more like a sample of what the band could be, but now it's the real thing.

Enchanted Darkness says:
If thats what you would call a sample I really cant wait to hear the new album! If you werent making music what do you think you would be doing?
Herr Nox says:
If I was not making music I would probably be wishing to make some. I really can't think of anything else. This band allows me to write, create visuals, play on stage, etc... I can express myself in so many artistic ways that I couldn't ask for something better.

Enchanted Darkness says:
Well I am glad you have found your outlet to express youself
This magazine Caters to the V C and those who live alternative lifestyles. Do you think our readers will relate to your music and if so in what way?

Herr Nox says:
I think so. Our music, lyrical themes and visual aspect certainly deal with curiosities and exploration of a dark world. Being someone living an alternative lifestyle myself, I know I would listen to this band. haha

Enchanted Darkness says:
lol I am also live my life on a darker path and I love your band so i think your right lol
